Kalpetta

Kalpetta, the small town lying on the Kozhikode- Mysore National Highway is the headquarters of Wayanad district. The town surrounded by coffee plantations and mountains is a tourist hub. It is through Kalpetta the spices, coffee and tea produced in the mountains of Wayanad are traded out to various other regions of India and is the trading hub.

Banasura Sagar Dam

Situated about 15 km from Kalpetta, the dam holds a large expanse of water and its picturesque beauty is enhanced by the chain of mountains seen on the backdrop. It is constructed in the Banasura Lake and the nearby mountains are known as Banasura Hills. Legends say that the Asura king of Banasura, undertook the hills and thus it was named after him.

Lakkidi

Lakkidi is the gateway of Wayanad as it is located at the crest of the serpentine Thamarassery ghat pass. There are nine hairpin curves from Adivaram to Lakkidi through steep mountains and a journey through the serpentine ghat pass is worth an experience. It is about 2296 ft above the sea level and the major town nearby is Vythiri which lies five km away.

Edakkal Cave

Twenty five kilometers away from Kalpetta lays two caves which showcases nature’s skill and philosophy on architecture. These caves are located 1,200 m above the sea level on Ambukutty Mala. The name ‘Edakkal’ literally means ‘a stone in between’. Here you can see a cave formed by a heavy boulder straddling a fissure in the rock.

Kuruva

Kuruva Dweep or Kuruva Island is a protected river delta, comprising a cluster of islands over the middle of Kabini River in Wayanad. Spread over 950 acres of land, Kuruva Island is densely populated with rich flora and fauna. The geographical peculiarity of this island makes this place evergreen with a serene ambience and have beautiful viewpoint.

Thollayiram

Thollayiram is a pretty little secret, a green hideaway, nuzzled in the hidden reaches of Wayanad.
