Kasaragod


Kasaragod is one of the districts in the northern tip of Kerala. Kasargod is surrounded by Kannur district in the south, Mangalore in the north, Western Ghats in the west and Arabain Sea in the east. Like other districts of Kerala, Kasaragod district too has a high literacy rate, around 85.17%. The district has got mixed culture and is highly influenced by the neighbouring states. The Malayalam spoken here has influences from Tulu, Kannada Urdu, Konkani etc. Kasaragod has enchanting beauty and is a land of historical importance. The district is home to the most fascinating forts, rivers, hills and beautiful beaches. The fort at Bekal is the largest and best preserved fort in the state.

Chandragiri Fort

Chandragiri Fort is a fort built in the 17th century. This large squarish fort is 150 feet above sea level and occupies an area of about seven acres adjacent to Chandragiri river. The fort is now in ruins.

Bekal Fort

Bekal – Bekal Fort, is the largest fort in Kerala, situated at Bekal, Pallikera village in Hosdurg Taluk in Kasaragod district, Kerala and it is 65 km from Mangalore city spreading over 40 acres.

Ranipuram Hills

Ranipuram is a renowned tourist destination in the northern tip of Kerala. It is situated 750 m above sea level. It makes for a perfect picnic spot where one can even come across the occasional herd of elephants.

Malom Wildlife

Malom is a small town that lies lazily near the Western Ghats in Kasaragod district. Known as the ‘Coorg’ of Kerala, it is blessed with Nature’s bounty.Malom has a rich cultural heritage, which is quite distinct. A rare Theyyam of north Malabar, the ‘Mukri Pokar’, a Muslim Theyyam is seen at Malomkuloth.

Hosdurg Fort

In Kanhangad lies the Hosdurg Fort, among the legendary chain of forts built by Somashekara Nayak of Ikkeri Dynasty. Lying nearby is the internationally renowned spiritual centre, the Nithyanandashram. About 15km from Bekal, these form an intriguing set of places that add to Kasaragod’s charm.

Mallikarjuna temple

One of the oldest and important temples in Kasaragod, the Mallikarjuna temple is devoted to lord Shiva known here by the name Mallikarjuna. The temple is situated in the heart of the Kasaragod city near the taluk office. Legend has it that the idol of Lord Shiva in the temple is adorned by Arjuna
